Blinder is the greatest man ever to have existed. Fact.

I've had a very good time in playing this map. Mostly because of the nice theming Smile
I understand your problem totally, a struggle between fps and wanting a lot of detail.
What i do miss at times is a bit smoothness in the obstacles and less walking, more obstacles. And i do think that is mainly because you were tired of mapping Smile
For the part about real life taking over, i dont mind for you to take a lil longer over a map Wink Personally i still think it's fun to map just to express your creativity.

Hope you will continue mapping, even if it's at a slower rate

O and splashy, we can't be blaming other people for getting fps problems since we have had some severe ones Smile And you can't blame anyone about rushing through mapping hence some of your maps Very Happy

Thanks for the info. Splashy I must say I did not take anything at all from previous maps, so I'm not sure what you are talking about on that point. If I took anything, then it would be from my own previous maps, but I'm sure I didn't take anything major. Everything that was made in that map came from myself (subliminally I may have thought of things from other maps, but I've been playing bunnytrack hardly at all so I doubt it). I even took ideas from pictures of castles on google and tried to make them in unrealed. I would NEVER take anything from someone elses maps (if that was what you meant, maybe you mean something different).

I feel you have rushed in with an opinion in terms of obstacles saying they are impossible, before seeing how to do them properly. Once I showed people, they understood it was actually quite easy. However the fps is the thing that kills off the playability of the map for you no doubt, so I understand your comment.

But you're right, I did rush this map out after I finished the castle area because it was taking up too much time in my life. I'm not really into UT as much as i used to be (real life is taking over), but felt it would be nice to make one last map before I'm not around anymore. I'm very happy for raylen/roel to fix it because I think this map could be great. The big mistake was to make a room so big in the first place. Thanks everyone for the comments, it's very much appreciated. I put so much effort into this that I got sick of it in the end and just wanted it done, sorry for that. I'm giving permission for Raylen/Roel to fix it if they want to (just let me know) because I don't have the time anymore.

im sorry but i think this map is a terrible shame, youve rushed it totally, its a loose mesh of other brushes from previous maps and a poorly recycled theme with an insane difficulty curve and major fps issues and inconsistent lighting, it could be great, but tidy it up properly! I had major problems with warpzones too, kept dying, theres bugs everywhere, and delete all the specialFX they burn up FPS like a bitch! I had to fly through it offline in godmode to get anywhere near the end just because fps ruins most obstacles, youve also overcompensated for dull obstacles with impossible timings, not fun

dont read that and feel shit, all the things are very fixable and will not take long, i would say 1 good session of a few hours can fix 99% of the problems, if youre totally sick of doing, get roel or raylen to do it they are proficient polishers!

Wow Blinder, I really have to say, this is just .. argh words fail me :p I mean I nicked some good maps awesome or incredible but this goes far beyond all that Razz One small other thing, if you make such a remarkable-looking map, make sure the first impression (the first room) is an eyecandy. Now i know that making a cave look as awesome as the rest is hard, but given your skills I'm sure you could've worked that out. (not necessary lol) Yet still that's only a minor announcement and I really really love this map. Great to explore it, hope you can fix it, but idd give it some time Wink gl

Now that i've played the whole map, I'm even more in love with it. It has a great flow and obstacles, some are hard to find out or tricky to learn, but its a long adventure map and imo thats an important aspect of it (no need to rush it). I dont really experience a lot of lag only on parts where i just have to walk or fly :p so thats not a big deal. Perfect Blinder! Smile

Me, April 6th, FBT Forums: Perhaps go a bit easy on actors / emitters / other things...the start of RobinHood comes close to crashing my laptop

You, the next day...: Indeed, a lot was learnt from the first robinhood, so no worries

I have to say, it utterly rinses my laptop. I know it's partly my fault for being too lazy to get OpenGL or D3D working, but even so...

- the outer terrain section is surrounded by trees and has lots of other things (firebugs etc) that push up fps
- in addition, the actual construction is fairly complex, which doesn't overly help matters
- low fps also makes some sections pretty hard (the first caves bit in particular)

I can't go into much more detail (it's bedtime, and I didn't get a lot further)...but I will say, it looks epic, really it does - it just needs to be made playable.

Oh and if you want any help, I can, although I do tend to hack a bit :f

Well, if your going to dbl it, you first gotta reduce the node-count Since UT only handles 65536 nodes. I can see how much work you put into this and the map really looks nice, but it is quite unplayable for me due to the low FPS.

I've been told about a few problems (including fps and darkness). I'm sure you guys can understand I'm sick of mapping after such a huge project. So I'll wait a week or so before trying to fix it, just incase any other problems come along that I can also fix. I will also try to double it again with some help from fellow mappers. Thanks Smile
