Akon is cool, he's commercialised R&B alot especially in the uk in the same way Eminem comercialised Rap.
As for his music i think he makes some good songs which are nice to listen to but they do tend to get tedious pretty quickly and are rather overplayed, his style isn't very varied, a great artist will have the flexibility to alter there style.
