Just wondered has anyone heard about what was happening about all this?

Basically in the USA they are to "up" the royalties needed paid per song on Internet Radio Stations.

There is currently a MASSIVE argument against this, from both big and small companies, saying this can simply bankrupt the whole Internet Radio business and also Artists and so on will get less money than they do now.
Another argument is that Internet Radio Stations already have to pay nearly or more than double what Satalite stations pay in royalties.

One thing being done is they are increasing the rate from 7/100 of a penny per song streamed to 19/100 of a penny per song streamed over a 5-year period. Which is nearly trippling current rates.

Ontop of this, They are removing the Revenue-based Royalty Option. Prior to this decision all small webcasters and some large webcasters had the choice of paying royalties based on a percentage of their revenue that typically equaled 10-12%. But the CRB decision did not offer a revenue-based royalty option for any webcasters.

26th June in the USA is "Silence Day". This is where a very large number of Internet Radio Stations (Again all big and small like AOL, DI.FM, LIVE...) had turned off their streaming or only streamed static silence or ocean sounds with no music being played at all.

Can read more on this at SaveNetRadio.org.

For me i think its rather a load of bullshit. If Internet Radio Stations already have to pay double what FM and so stations have to pay then why increase it even more?
Also as the site describes alot of artists will lose out from this with royalties being unable to be paid, their music also not getting across and generally sales decreasing quite a lot.
Also one of my fave Hardcore Radio's... happyhardcore.com will lose out on this as well as they are hosted by DI.FM who are in the USA. There are millions of listeners to DI.FM and thousands of them on the happyhardcore.com streams, so this wouldn't half piss A LOT of people off.

Discuss imo Mr. Green
