Hi everyone I'm new to [i4games] and the servers, site, etc but I am NOT new to UT99 / Bunnytracks / UT99 Serers and all that. (You may have played on my server / Clan Server for }Tp{ clan.) So no thinking I'm a nubby Laughing lol.

Okay now to the point of the thread. I have Windows Vista and I need to Disable my Spread Spectrum (in BIOS) in order for my UT to work stright. And I posted this elsewhere and did not get much help at all. I can open up my BIOS no problem, but I cant seem to find Spread Spectrum. If someone could please tell me WHY I cant find it or WHERE I find it it would help alot. Thanks

-Masta

Define "Spread Spectrum".

But it sounds like something Vista would have rather than your Bios ...

Have you tried contacting your BIOS's make?

The first question is : Why would you want to disable that ?
or : Who told you you had to disable that ?

By reading the definition on wikipedia, it looks to me that element is linked to the transport layer and therefore should be completely transparent to the application layer. UT servers are contacted through UDP, a standard IP protocol. IMO, there's no reason why something would have to be changed in the transport layer otherwise you would also have problems connecting to anything through TCP too.

What happens when you try to connect to a UT server ?
That would be a good start to try to resolve your problem(s). Smile

The use of the spread spectrum can have some impact on the system's stability (and the Internet connections too). It is explained there:

As far as im aware, spread spectrum is an energy saving feature, when the cpu is not under load it reduces the fsb to give you less cpu clock when you don't need it saving energy as less power is used and less heat dispensed.

Im on Vista as well, and I had disabled visual themes and desktop composition to get UT to run smoothly. What exactly happens when you play UT?

When I play UT, I used to have slow motion gameplay and ocasionally fast motion gameplay, that problem was solved by changed some things in Power Options. Now I can play Semi-Fine but after about 5 servers I get screenlag, it looks like I'm gettings an FPS of about 2 lol. I just have my screen looking in one place, I turn and its in a new place. I cant seem to find where to disable Spread Spectrum, I know its in BIOS but is there a program or something I need?? Surprised

** EDIT **

If you can't find it in your BIOS, then maybe your BIOS doesnt have it?

Do a google search on what your bios is and relate it to Spread Spectrum.

Hope u get that sorted -masta- tho I dunno where some of these suggestions are coming from, actually there's only been the one above my post!

I'm no help on this issue, but I'm very confused as to why UT has such problems running on Vista?! How exactly does Vista ruin the running of UT? Maybe answering that could lead to the solution :/ I'd be very interested if some cud try to explain/answer this, and it may help -masta- too Smile

What is the bios that you have masta? Eg. name & version number. Is it Award Bios? Did you look in 'Power Managment Setup' settings?
