Audacity for recording, I use FL Studio 8 XXL version as sequencer. Sometimes mess around in Reason.

For VST's I recommend the EDIROL orchestral VST for orchestra. Z3ta+ and Nexus for synths, and I pretty much even forgot the 20 different piano vsts I use, but ah well. They all suck anyways. :p

Also download about any sample you can get your hands on. This is a true case of more = better.

Hope I helped. Wink

For proper decent production and remixing, you should use a decent DAW like FL Studio, Cubase etc...

I Use FL8 with a shit load of vsts and samples.

However, I think your more about mixing tracks together... So Mixmeister or Virtual DJ.

Mixmeister is a good program that renders each track in and you can set it all out in the program for a mix. Then you export that whole mix as one mix. Really clever program, however I do recommend mixing properly lol.

Using a DAW to make mixes is not an ideal solution as most of them do everything on the fly as you do it and processes them whilst its going on, where as a program like Mixmeister renders it when you do it meaning uses less memory.

Or Nexus 2 Razz (Nexus is a ROMpler btw.. not a synth)

If your finding your Piano sucks then try EQing it shit loads and doing all sorts of wank tastic stuff to it.

I use one of the worst Piano VSTs ever, mdaPiano. But with alot of EQing, Compression and stuff it sounds so much better.
Check my track "DJ Square - Cry Myself To Sleep (Ravenatic Remix)" - The piano on that is mdaPiano with a shit load of crap done to it.

Also sample wise, buy Vengance packs! Probably some of the best stuff available.

Didn't know you do production though, Moon Surprised

Oh yeah, I've been producing for a bit more than half a year now. Very Happy

And I already EQ it a lot, big reverb and everything, my piano module has *no* options. It's CPU friendly, so works for me. It's a bit to bright though. :F

Also, sample packs. Yeaaah. Tons and tons of samples. Punchy kicks and drums, and what not. (20GB of samples glop glop) Best thing is that like 95% of it was free!

I'm going to review some of your work soon Dan. Was planning on doing so yesterday but had like 10 hours of homework. :-l

I'd say, prepare.. hawhawhaw.

Haha go for it.. most me stuff is shite but im getting there.

I'm really slow at producing because of work and dj life now lol.
Got alot of exciting stuff in the pipeworks though some really buzzing tracks and a few MC lead tracks too.

Got a link to your stuff mate?

Not atm, my own comp fried. Getting a new one next week so I'll hook up my old harddisk and upload some stuff. Got about 10 WIP's. Razz

EDIT: I've started uploading some work to Newgrounds. I got links to those, but they're *really* bad. Well not that bad, but far from my best. :p

Here's a link: http://www.newgrounds.com/audio/listen/201126

Made in a day, don't judge to harsh. Wink Also turn up the speakers! Main instrument is bass, so it's kind of low overall volume.
