Hi all.
I have been doing some tests on how to bounce in UT. Before people ask, I am not talking about "oh you scroll jump". This is for those people who know exactly how to bounce, but can NEVER bounce more than twice without walk or some luck. For those who have this restriction, I have performed some tests and have been able to get my UT able to bounce fairly well without any walk etc.

First, the UT I am using:

UT GOTY (v436)
Renderer: OpenGL 3.7 (http://www.cwdohnal.com/utglr/)

It seems that the bounce is dependant on the GPU settings in place.
My PC has an NVIDIA 8800GTS, I do not have any alternate GPUs to test with, so please try and see if this works for you as it does for me.

Most cards come with a software utility to provide specialist settings for different applications. For me, I open NVIDIA control panel, and can set specific settings for how UT is rendered.

What I found is that by forcing VSync off, I was able to tweak further and get bouncing working. But at no point could I bounce more than twice with Vsync on, so it seems its related to gpu/rendering.

Once you have VSync forced off for ut. Run ut and start a practice session offline. At this point, your UT will probably be running crazy fast. Now open the console and type 'preferences' to bring up advanced settings. Under rendering -> openGL, set framerate limit to 60 and refresh rate to 120. You can play with these numbers later to adjust, but they seem to improve/decline with change. Please be assured, although when you first play UT with vsync off, its crazy fast offline. When you join any server online, you will be normal speed.

So please try this settings. They worked for me, would like to know if they work for others:

OpenGL 3.7
UT 436
Force VSync off for UT via NVIDIA/ATI software
Open ut preferences, and within rendering -> opengl
Set frameratelimit to 60
Set refreshrate to 120
Try bouncing!

Thats it, UT should now be at the correct speed and you can try bouncing. UT may seem a little laggy, it seems to me that it is the tiny bit of lag that allows UT to bounce you repeatedly. I found the bounce point was a bit later than usual, which seemed to be due to the laggy refreshing.

Thanks all, please try if you have some time and report findings.

I currently bounce way better on my new laptop compared to my old.

I currently have an Nvidia quadro 1000m.
I am using D3D9, have the nvidia settings for vsect to applicastion controlled and I turned vsync off in ut by setting SwapInterval to 0 (in rendering properties).

I'll try your settings on my old laptop (probably have to clean off the dust first), which as an ATI 9200 mobility radeon and see if it makes a difference.

I guess it should be pointed out that Mike is referring to bouncing in BT.
Short bounces when someone is boosting you every 2 bounces ain't too bad Razz

Bouncing is only 'illegal' in official Clanbase matches (all mods).

Ok did some tests on my old laptop:

GPU : ATI Mobility Radeon 9200

Vsync was already "Always off".
Already had OGL 3.7, UT v436
TestMap: SlideBitch

I set the frameratelimit to 60 and refreshrate to 120.
Tried bouncing offline and it didn't really work, I know I'm not really a good bouncer, but did 1 or 2 bounces each time.

Then I realized that I had set SwapInterval to 0, while -1 is default (notice the minus sign btw), so I set it back. New attempt. Bouncing worked, in the sense I could bounce up to 11/12 times in a row.

However, I didn't really like setting my refreshrate to 120, which is way higher than the native refreshrate of the screen (72), and I have damaged a screen by setting it to high in the past... So I tried interchanging the values 60 and 120. Bouncing stopped working (1 or 2 bounces). I set the refreshrate to 72, idem, no bouncing.

Then I kept my refreshrate at 72 and set the frameratelimit to 60. Bouncing worked again, in the sense that again I could bounce up to 11/12 times in a row. Then I increased the frameratelimit slightly, which caused bouncing failures again.

So in summary:
- Have your GPU software force vsync off for OGL
- set the framerate limit to 60
- set SwapInterval to -1

- refreshrate has no influence (at least for me)

Small note: I use different settings on my new laptop and bouncing works perfectly though....

Setting your refresh rate to 120 hz isnt going to work unless you have a 120 hz supported monitor , also depends on your resolution you are playing at.
People with 120 hz monitors in ut , don't really use 120 hz because it stutters , they use 90 fps , at 120 hz , which is fine because of no tearing , if you use 120 hz on a 60 hz monitor your going to get like laggy performance or rips in your screen , which isnt a good thing , I could explain more but im tired right now :zz

Ok, tested someting on my new laptop.

GPU: Nvidia Quadro 1000m
renderer: D3D9 1.4
I have my refreshrate at 50, swapinterval 0 and frameratelimit at 70, bouncing works. Reducing the framerate to 60 made me stop bouncing, setting swapinterval to -1 messed up my movement :S

Does not work any way I try it.

max bounces I got is 5(down one level). Usual: 2 bounces.

This is also very dependant on your ini's
over the years i probably gathered around 60 / 70 ini's and their renderers.
It's surprising how i'm able to bounce without walk with some ini's and with some i'm able to do it nonstop with walk.
