Of course you do, moron, that's why you are here on the i4Games website checking out these forums right now, and that's why I am here to explain to you how you can further increase your love for this superbly awesome gametype!
I figured I would post this here since not all the i4Games players are currently 'up-to-speed' with the current 1v1 cup being hosted on Clanbase, so not all might have seen my post there.
Anyway! On to the fun stuff;
Around a year ago, myself and BiGbOsS (fierd_0) decided to play a BT pug (pickup game) on an unnamed IRC channel that a lot of BT players have been to in the past. A game started and after much hassle we got into a game, where an unnamed player decided to teamkill through the whole game constantly and ruin it for everyone. As this IRC channel had been dead for the latter part of 4 years, no action was taken and this person was allowed to continue playing games etc.
So, Boss and I, we took it in our stride to create our own channel which would be filled with active BT players, with active admins who could promote the game of BT in a way which is fun and also competitive, in a way. We created the channel #BT (previously known as #bt-pug), and we have been working hard together with a bunch of others in the UT community to provide the channel with a bunch of fancy scripts and all that type of good stuff!
We launched the pugbot, [Bot] late last year and as our channel was new we only got a few people in but got some 3v3 pick up games (pugs) happening, I set up a bunch of servers and it was good fun. As this current 1v1 cup has come around, we decided to repromote the idea, and the channel has grown exponentially since then. We have 6v6 games going off nearly everyday, and we've even had an 8v8 game go off a few days ago.
We all pack together onto TeamSpeak and talk strategy, creative boost strats and mostly, laugh. The bot is configured for anything from 1v1 -> 8v8, so even if you're looking for some quick 1v1 practice, you can always join up there, or anything in between that and a huge 8v8! I have worked with Nintendo/Nin]/Thomas], the supervisor of the current CB cup to get his servers to a state where 8v8 is available on the mapvote list and a bunch of maps as well.
In addition to that, Bigboss and I are currently in the planning stages of developing a new tournament format which has never yet been seen before in BT, which will be running near the end of the current cup and hopefully into the start of summer. It will require teams of 3/4 and will be filled with a lot of strategy and fun times to take a spin on traditional BT!
So now you're asking is, how do we join into these pugs? Easy!
First of all, you need an IRC client, for Windows I recommend mIRC (mirc.com), for Linux I recommend Irssi, and for Mac I recommend you throw out your computer and buy one that supports Windows or Linux.
Once you have the IRC client installed, connect yourself to the QuakeNet IRC server, if you need some help check: www.youtube.com/watch?v=reJDU7SX-hA. Once connected to the server, simply type in '/join #BT' into the chat box and you will be taken directly to our humble little home!
From there you can start chatting with all the current active BT players, rushers, admins, start joining in pugs using the '.join' command, so if you feel like playing a 3v3, simply open up the #BT chatbox and type '.join 3v3' without the quotation marks, and you will be confirmed that you're in the PUG! If you want to see all the other commands you can do, simply type '.help' and a friendly webpage link will popup for you
The bot in our channel is also capable of many other things, such as; reporting instantly when a map record is beaten on i4Games, being able to search the i4Games record database through the bot directly, either by player or by map name, getting links for UT streams that are active etc.
We also have a TeamSpeak 3 server that you are more than welcome to use, simply connect to fierd.net:9987 with no password. I am happy to provide private channels for you and your friends if you require it. You can see the current status of the TS server in IRC simply by typing '.ts' as well!
So what are you waiting for? If you're not already in the channel by now, you're clearly doing something wrong. I mean, we have i4Games trustees PERN & Roel joining in on pugs, also skilled rushers like Niko and Dylan, and even division 3 players like LoSaH, Finalz etc. You don't need to be some sort of super skilled player to play in these, as they are just for fun and can provide really good practice to your BT ability!
We hope to see you there at some point, and if this post wasn't enough to entice you - just watch this video of a 6v6 that I streamed a week or two ago: http://www.twitch.tv/fierd/c/2234406 (skip to 1:03:55 for hilarities).
Together, we can keep this mod alive and healthy for another 10 years!
Thanks
