My brother has built his own pc and plays "Runescape" (runescape.com) from getting up to going to bed, he can spend 20 hours on a computer, and sometimes is sleeping in the day.

I have spoken to him but...it aint helping.

He NEVER showers from what i see (yes its true its disgusting) and he even bought his own haircutting equipment because he woudln't go out the house. His hair was down past his shoulders.

I on the other hand USED to play from when i got in from school to when i went to bed (sometimes only 9 pm cus i'd watch tv or go out) but i never got as extreem as ditching my mates...i was quite popular Smile

as i was a seller (school canteen didn't allow chocolate or fizzy drinks) i sold chocolate and drinks, cans at 50p (half a £1) and chocolate bars like galaxy for 40P i made HUGE profit and a lot of friends, it kept me going to school Smile

Thanks for your life encounter with the pc, it's quite life changing once you admit it and move on. So kudoes to you man.

Was the addiction because you loved UT so much? I'm thinking many ppl play, say UT a lot, not coz they really enjoy it but more as a boredom stopper. I'm sure if somehow they acquired a spark or passion to do something in particular then motivation would follow and life would probs be more enjoyable and enriched. Hey we live in hope xD

now im 16 and don't do relationships.

But yeah, I hang out with friends and go out in the weekends.
good tips.. I can find myself in it when I was 13-14.

like many ppl i was also addicted for many many years, first ctf, instagib, assault and then BT
Unfortunately (or should i say fortunately) i cant play decently anymore because my fingers got 'rusty' after all these years of dodging Confused

but even now i still keep playing now and then, BT and assault
I sometimes feel like i have wasted my life, but i don't really care
i guess i ll keep doing this until there are no servers left to play on Razz

Good post. Sometimes people just loose track of what is really important. BT is important but other things are more important than gaming. It's good to give things up that take a lot of your time that you could be doing other things. Me, I read a hell of a lot. Spend 6-13 hours a day (sometimes not every day though) mapping or also making music. But I also go on walks that turn into 10 or 12 miles, or ride my bicycle 250 miles a 4 or 5 days camping along the way. I also go rockclimbing 2 or 3 times a week. LOL and paint drying? I do that a LOT. Because oil paint takes a LONG time to dry. I haven't ever been addicted to gaming though...mapping yes, gaming no.
The only game I have ever played so much that I needed to force myself to do it less is Slashem. But then again I was also playtesting it because I modified the source code. ADOM is now my newest game I play a lot (maybe a bit too much). But I also go back and forth with reading and mapping and music while playing it. But when I have some friends that want to go hang out or a hike that I want to do, I'm there. But I do remember when I was playing Myst/Riven/Necronomicon or Zork every day all day long when I was younger. I'm much older and wiser now. I just thank the gods that they didn't have EverQuest (evercrack) or WoW when I was growing up (or even UT for that matter). Unreal might have been out but I didn't play it then. I know Quake was out and a little while later Q2 because I was making maps for them. If some of these new games were out when I was growing up I would have easily become hooked.
A friend of mine was addicted to EverQuest and then later WoW. He used to go through 2 packs of cigarettes and a 24 pack of beer by himself playing that game from the time he got home from work to just about 5 hours until he had to get up to go to work again. He lost his house, and his girlfriend of 5 years. They met online playing the game, but she kicked the habit and he wouldn't. But he finally gave it up completely about a year or so later. So eventually everything usually works out for the best.
