Dr Dre is responsible for making rap what it is today and for some of the most bump tunes ever made. Imagine where Eminem, 50 Cent, Snoop, G Unit, etc etc be if there was no Dre.
So i say Dre and that covers everyone who collaborated.
I also like Lil John alot. Timbaland is good also.

I couldnt disagree more. Eminem, 50 cent, g-unit? i don't class that as hip hop. Listen to their lyrics, talking of guns and bitches n stuff. Hip hop grew in new york with the likes of afrika bambaataa using breakbeat to create music.
Loads of underground artists stick by this hip hop and avoid the gangsta rap stuff of the 90's. Maybe just my opinion but 50 cent etc just talk aload of rubbish about money and cars, and don't really do hip hop any good in the media.
Just listen to lord finesse....true hip hop from the bronx, pleeease im begging you lol

afaik lord finesse produced for dre on the 2001 album;) so the guy got respect for dr dre.
the chronic and 2001 were great albums too,
same with the first (underground)albums of 50 cent.
And i got to mention Jay-z cuz he did make classic albums too:)
yeh ofc im not saying dre didnt do anything good, but he was in no way a founder. Idd vjh jay z had some good albums, he also worked with big l on a few tracks, although l ripped him apart on that 7 min tape.
well kronick,u r sooo true! I 500% agree wit ya ^^
bling bling trash rap... nowadays i m missin the real MCs like Kool G Rap, Cormega, Big daddy kane, Prodigy of mobb deep, ghostfacekilla,KRS one, Nas, Diamond D, RZA,... only a few are surviving the merchandisin rap(like a biatch lol). the movement is not the same anymore ( i m almost ashamed too say i like hip hop :p
No MC´s ---> no hip hop -_-
I m tellin ya hip hop is soooo dead now, and I hope that few good Mc´s will rebirth :p
Well Dr Dre made Rap mainstream imo... i wasn't referring to my favourites as 50 cent, Eminem etc although i think they';re in a class of their own i was referring to dr dre as the reason for their success. I believe im right.
Rap was never a mainstream genre until N.W.A started "gangsta rap" (that Dre produced for) around the late 80s, before then it was secluded to certain clubs and labelled "trash" and "garbage" even tho some amazing rap songs where made in the late 70s and early 80s. Which bought it into the limelight. Especially in the UK Rap only became famous after the demise of 2pac and Biggie, because of them being shot. Although back to the point, Dre has bought up the most popular names in hip hop. People like Will Smith and Madonna also ask Dr Dre to produce for them, and some of the best songs in hip hop ever are created by him. I'm much more of an old school rap fan like 1982-1999 coz of the funk influence and simplicity of producing.
ye all the names shozza listed I like role deep, lethal bizzle and the streets also.
